About us
Duntroon Community Centre is a welcoming and inclusive space for the whole community. Located within the grounds of the Royal Military College – Duntroon, we welcome Defence and non-Defence members from across Canberra and the surrounding region.
For more than 40 years, the Centre has been bringing people together through connection, support and community. Today, we offer a diverse range of programs, activities and events for babies, children, adults and families, as well as spaces to meet, create, work and connect.
Whether you're new to Canberra, part of the Defence community, looking to meet new people or simply wanting to get involved, there's a place for you at Duntroon Community Centre.
Our History
Duntroon Community Centre first opened in 1981, providing Defence families with a place to connect, find companionship and access support.
The Centre was incorporated in May 1992, with the Playschool program beginning soon after and becoming part of our growing community offering.
In July 2003, the Centre moved to our current home within the Royal Military College - Duntroon. The larger facility created new opportunities for programs, events and community activities and has allowed the Centre to continue evolving.
More than four decades after opening our doors, our purpose remains the same - to provide a welcoming place to belong, connect and be part of the community.
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
A voluntary committee manages the Duntroon Community Centre ensuring that our objectives are being met. All members are encouraged to attend monthly meetings noting fresh faces and ideas are important in developing engaging programs now and into the future. Members can also nominate as Management Committee members at the AGM.
COMMUNICATION
The Centre maintains a regular newsletter, a facebook page and information notice boards in the centre.
FUNDING
We are a not-for-profit organisation, relying on grants to fund activities and volunteers to assist our small staff group as required.
The Duntroon Community Centre is a recipient of Defence Community Organisations Family Support Funding Program grant and the Community Support Coordinator Program grant.
The funding goes to operational costs and contributes to some programs at the centre.
